Eagles Balanced Offense Helps Top Badgers, 93-86

Nashua - Sophomore Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) led a balanced Daniel Webster College attack with 20 points including a pair of three pointers leading the Daniel Webster College men's basketball team past Johnson State College, 93-86 in the Eagles home opener Wednesday night at Vagge Gymnasium.

Hanson paced a balanced scoring attack as six different Eagles reached double figures in moving to 2-0 overall on the season.

Brian Inge (Fort Washington, Md.) knocked down 18 points including four three pointers and added three steals, while sophomore Chris Voukides hit for 15, Adam Landry (Vernon, Conn.) and Tim Jackson (W. Henrietta, N.Y.) hit for 12, and rookie William Kemp Harris (Suitland, Md.) added 11 points and a team best nine boards.

Leandro Martinez (Philadelphia, Penn.) led the Badgers (1-2) with a game high 26 points with 21 of them and four three pointers all coming in the second half.

John Foley (Valley Stream, N.Y.) added 15 including 13 in the first half along with nine rebounds, while Bobby Shedd notched 14 and six rebounds, knocking down 6 of 8 from the field.

Michael Bosch (Morrisville, Vt.) and Nate Doge (Burlington, Vt.) added nine points apiece.

Turnovers made the ultimate difference in the contest. The Eagles took advantage of 22 Badger turnovers, and committed just seven, leading to an eye-catching 32-9 scoring advantage. The difference helped nullify the Badgers depth on the boards as they won the glass 42-33, despite 11 Eagle offensive rebounds.

Johnson jumped out of the gate hitting their first five shots and built an eight-point lead over the first seven minutes.

But the Eagles responded quickly to cut the deficit. Down 19-11 with 13 minutes to go in the first, Landry put home a layup, Voukides followed with a three, and the Eagles would eventually tie it at 22 on an Inge trey at the 10 minute mark.

A Jackson layup gave the Eagles their first led with 8:15 to go. The teams would stage two mini runs over the final six minutes and DWC held a 39-37 lead at the break.

The Eagles took command in building a 10-point lead on four different occasions in the second half, but Johnson would cut the lead down to five at 88-83 on a Martinez trey with 43 seconds left.

Jackson and Inge followed going 4 for 4 down the stretch at the line preserving the lead.

Daniel Webster returns to action Friday night at the Keene State College Classic. The Eagles face Hampshire College in the opening round at 9:00 p.m. and follow with the consolation or championship Saturday at 5:00 or 7:00 p.m.

Johnson State is off until November 29th when they visit Western Connecticut State at 6:00 p.m.
