Eagles Catch Moose, Win 89-67
Nashua - Junior guard Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) notched 17
points including five three-pointers and junior Chris Voukides
(Salem, N.H.) added 13 as Daniel Webster College pushed past
UMaine-Augusta, 87-69 Wednesday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.
Every Eagle saw minutes and 14 different players registered at
least a point as DWC moved to 2-0 on the young season. Junior Eric
Suarez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore Jonathan Smalls (Deer Park,
N.Y.) added 10 points, while junior Victor Rios (Brooklyn) scored
nine and Steve Savage (Salem, N.H.) added seven points and a team
high nine boards.
Lawrence Williams (Chicago, Ill.) led the Moose (1-2) with a game
high 25 points, knocking down 12-of-26 from the field and added 10
rebounds. Jawaan Stallings (Chicago) added 18 points, while Shane
Ciriello (Auburn, Maine) notched eight points and a game high 11
boards.
The Eagles never trailed and the game was tied once, at 4-4 early
on. The Eagles followed the tie with a 14-0 run sparked by
back-to-back layups from Suarez and a Hanson three and the lead
would swell to as high as 31 (43-12) in the opening frame. DWC shot
49-percent in the half and led 53-27 at the break.
The Eagles finished with a 55-40 advantage on the glass including a
21-12 total on the offensive boards and never allowed the Moose
closer than 17 through the second frame.
The Eagles return to action Friday night facing Colby-Sawyer in the
first round of the Rivier College Tip Off, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
With a win, the Eagles would face the winner of Rivier and Anna
Maria on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. A loss puts the Eagles in the
consolation game at 12:00 p.m
