Men's Lacrosse: Norwich Downs Eagles In Home Opener, 15-9

Nashua – The Daniel Webster College men’s lacrosse team staged a late rally, scoring five goals in the fourth quarter but fell short, dropping a 15-9 decision to Norwich University in their 2010 season opener Thursday at Eagle Field.

Justin Pearson (Theresa, N.Y.), Tyler Nicholl (Odgen, Utah) and Michael White (Walpole, Mass.) paced the Cadets (1-2) with three goals each while Joe Galante (Framingham, Mass.) added a goal and four assists and Kyle Marzeotti (Billerica, Mass.) added two goals and two assists.

Mike Jordan (Wakefield, Mass.) and Justin Chiulli (Saugus, Mass.) led the Eagles (0-2) with three goals and an assist apiece, while Shane Devaney (Merrimack, N.H.) notched two goals and two assists, and Alex McKenzie (Nashua) chipped in with a goal and three assists.

Nathan Proctor (Pleasanton, Calif.) earned the win in goal making eight saves, while Tommy Driscoll (South Boston, Mass.) made 11 stops for the hosts.

Norwich took control scoring the first five goals of the game and held a 6-1 lead after the opening quarter. Chiulli notched two scores in the second and Jordan added one as the Eagles pulled to within 8-4 at the break.

But the Cadets scored six unanswered goals in the third with two each coming from Nichol and White to build a 14-4 lead.

DWC would score five times in the fourth including two from Jordan, but couldn’t pull closer than six the rest of the way.

Norwich finished with a 38-24 total shots advantage while the Eagles controlled the ground game with 34-23 win in groundballs.

The Eagles return to action Saturday hosting Emerson College at Noon.

Norwich hosts Becker College Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
