Nashua, N.H. – David Downie (Merrimack, N.H.) registered a hat trick and added two assists and pulled in a game-high eight groundballs but Johnson & Wales used a six goal second period and five in the third to help secure a 17-6 Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory at Eagle Field.
The Wildcats wrapped up their inaugural season finishin 4-12 overall (2-8 GNAC) while DWC moved to 1-12 overall and completed their final season in GNAC play at 0-10. DWC closes its season on Monday visiting Green Mountain for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) picked up two goals for the Eagles.
Damian Bandereck (Topsfield, Mass.) led the Wildcats with four goals and an assist, Tyler Thompson (West Chester, Penn.) notched three goal and two assists, and Brian Hillenbrand (Portsmouth, R.I.) notched goal and four assists. TJ Consiglio (New Fairfield, Conn.) chipped in with three goals and registered a game-high nine groundballs.
JWU pulled ahead 1-0 3:10 into the game on Hillebrand's first before Downie tied it 1:18 later for a 1-1 game.
The Wildcats followed with two before the end of the quarter and added two to open the second for a 5-1 lead when Hamilton cut it to 5-2 for DWC with 7:49 to go in the second.
Thompson and Consiglio would pocket two goals each as part of a 6—0 run ending the second and opening the third that extended the lead to 11-2 before Anthony Cotoni (Groton, Mass.) made it an 11-3 game with 9:56 to go in the third.
JWU rattled off the next five before Downie netted his second of the game for a 16-4 game with 12:01 remaining in the fourth, added his third with 2:56 left and Hamilton closed out the scoring in the waning seconds for the 17-6 final.
