Men's Volleyball: Eagles Hold off Newbury In Five Sets, 3-2

Kyle Lovering posted five kills and hit a career best .364 in Tuesday night's NECC win over Newbury.

NASHUA, N.H. – Led by 12 kills from Charlie Joel Hendrix, host Daniel Webster escaped with a 3-2 (25-14, 25-17, 25-27, 23-25 and 15-5) victory over Newbury College in a NECC men's volleyball match Tuesday evening at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

The win improves Daniel Webster's record to 4-10 overall and 4-4 in the NECC while Newbury dips to 6-10 overall and 4-4 in conference action.

Daniel Webster held a 2-0 lead in the match and was looking to close it out before Newbury rallied to take sets three and four.  The Eagles came out on the floor in the deciding fifth set and cruised to a 15-5 finish.

Junior Ryan Howdeshell registered the night's only double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs along with four kills and three block assists.  Also contributing toward the victory for the Eagles were juniors Tommy Reyes and Darrien Mason, who each had nine kills.

Senior Danny TIner led the Nighthawks with a match-high 16 kills while freshman Wade Robidoux followed with nine kills and 12 digs.

The Eagles held a thin edge in kills with a 40-39 advantage but it was their stifling defense that tipped the balance as they recorded 22 block assists.  Both Hendrix and senior Kyle Lovering recorded a team-high six blocks while Mason contributed with five.
Daniel Webster returns to action on Thursday, March 19 when it hosts Southern Vermont College at 7 p.m.
