Nashua, NH – Host Daniel Webster was led by a match-high 14 kills from Charlie Hendrix (Kane'ohe, Haw.) but dropped a 3-0 decision to Southern Vermont in a NECC matchup Thursday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.
Scott Fitzgerald (Queensbury, N.Y.) led four players for SVC (13-5, 7-1 NECC) in double figures with 13 kills and hit .550 (13-202), while Stewart Ramirez (Los Angles, Cal.) posted 12 kills and hit .320 (12-4-25). Kevin Walley (Pico Rivera, Cal.) posted 11 kills and hit .526 (11-1-19) and Joey Dighton (Riverside, Cal.) picked up 10 kills and hit .471 (10-2-17). Overall, SVC combined to hit .424.
Herson Canta (Laguinitas, Cal.) dished out 40 assists for the winners as the Mountaineers posted set scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-22.
Hendrix finished hitting .361 for the hosts (4-11, 4-5 NECC) while Darrien Mason notched six kills and Tommy Reyes (Providence, R.I.) chipped in with five. Ryan Howdeshell (Fairbanks, Alaska) handed out 24 assists adding three service aces. James Kenney (Coventry, R.I.) pulled in six digs.
SVC finished with advantages in total kills (50-27), assists (46-25), and digs (41-21) while DWC bettered the visitors in aces (8-2) and total blocks (10-4).
Dighton posted six kills in the opening set to lead SVC, which combined to hit an unconscious .630. Ramirez knocked down six in the second with SVC hitting .484 and Fitzgerald was the high man for the green and gold in the third set with five kills.
The Eagles are no off until next Wednesday when they close their nearly month-long home stand and play their home season finale against Regis in a NECC matchup beginning at 7:00 p.m.
SVC hosts Endicott on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
