Men's Volleyball: Eagles Topple Mount Ida, Fall To Rivier to Move to 2-3 On Season

(Nashua, N.H.) - Daniel Webster posted a 1-1 mark on Saturday at Rivier, taking down Mount Ida, 3-1 before falling to Rivier, 3-0. DWC moved to 2-3 on the early season.

Set scores of 25-19, 19-25, 27-25 and 25-15 propelled the Eagles past the Mustangs (0-2).

Senior Ryan Howdeshell (Fairbanks, Ala.) knocked home 10 kills with 12 digs and Darrien Mason smacked down 9 kills in leading Daniel Webster to their second win (2-2 overall). Freshman Nate Makaiwi (Las Vegas, Nev.) directed the offense with 24 assists and freshman Saunoa Afoa (Las Vegas, Nev.) added 10 digs to help the back line.

The Raiders (1-1) took the match by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-23.

Afoa was the kill leader for the Eagles as he totaled eight on 19 attempts. Howdeshell added six kills and Mason chipped in with four. Makaiwi once again paced the flow of the offense with 20 assists. Junior Tommy Reyes (Providence, R.I.) had seven digs in the loss.

Junior Ian Wolski (Westfield, Mass.) recorded eight kills in two sets to lead the Raiders. Junior Matt LaSance (Madison, Conn.) stepped up and provided 21 assists in the contest while senior Mike Hovnanian (Methuen, Mass.) collected 11 digs along the back line.


Daniel Webster returns to action next Saturday traveling to Keuka to Purchase State at 2:00 p.m. and Keuka at 4:00 p.m. DWC then stops to visit Wells College on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
