Aurora, N.Y. - Rookie Saunoa Afoa (Las Vegas, Nev.) registered a match-best 24 kills adding 13 digs, five assists, two service aces and two solo blocks, guiding Daniel Webster past host Wells College, 3-2 Sunday.
Afoa hit .378 and combined for 28 points total as DWC evened its overall record at 4-4. Set scores were 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 21-25 and 15-12.
Ryan Howdeshell (Fairbanks, Alaska) added 14 kills and nine digs for the Eagles, while Richard Iturralde Zavalza (Tucson, Ariz.) posted 10 kills. Rookie setter NJ Makaiwi (Las Vegas) handed out 53 assists and added 13 digs.
Brannon Perdicho led Wells (4-3) with 18 kills while Kody McCracken added 16.
Afoa was particularly strong in the second, fourth and fifth sets where he banged down six kills in each, respectively. DWC hit .286 for the day including a remarkable .438 in the pivotal fifth. The Eagles finished with a decisive advantage in total kills (67-55), and assists (62-54), helping negate 16 combined blocks for Wells.
The Eagles are back in action on Thursday when they visit 13th ranked MIT at 7:00 p.m. DWC will be looking to avenge a 3-1 loss to the Engineers back on January 16th and will be seeking the first win in program history over a nationally ranked opponent.
