Men's Volleyball: Eagles Chop Down Elms For Ninth Win Of Season, 3-0

Tommy Reyes (7) hit .667 going 6-0-9 and added four aces and four digs against Elms on Wednesday night.

Nashua, NH - Senior Ryan Howdeshell (Fairbanks, Alaska) posted a match-high 10 kills and reigning NECC Rookie of the Week Saunoa Afoa (Las Vegas, Nev.) added nine kills, five assists and seven digs guiding host Daniel Webster past Elms, 3-0 in a NECC matchup Wednesday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

The Eagles, who are 4-2 over their last six, evened their record at 9-9 overall (4-1 NECC) and took over sole possession of second place in the league standings with set victories of 25-19, 25-15, 25-13 and topped the Blazers (9-7, 1-3 NECC) for the fifth straight time.

Howdeshell hit .438 (10-3-16), Afoa hit .444 (9-1-18) and Tommy Reyes (Providence, R.I.) posted a .667 mark with six kills in nine attempts with no errors heling DWC hit .400 as a team. Nate (NJ) Makaiwi (Las Vegas) dished out 20 assists, pulled in seven digs and hit .833 with five kills in six attempts with no errors.

Elms, which hit just .052, was led by Gabriel Reis Levy (Rio De Janeiro, BRZ) with eight kills while Daniel Bondarovsky posted six kills and Angel Castro (Carolina, P.R.) had five.

The Eagles posted a season best .890 service percentage, racked up 34 kills to 25 for the Blazers, and combined for 12 total blocks to five for the visitors.

Howdeshell picked up four kills in an opening set that saw six ties and two lead changes with Castro countering for Elms with four kills. DWC sizzled in the second and never trailed, hitting .588 (11-1-17) with Howdeshell knocking down four more while Elms hit -.043 led by three kills from Bondarovsky.

DWC stayed hot in the third hitting .476 with both Afoa and Reyes knocking down four kills each while Levy posted three for the Blazers.

The Eagles remain home and return to action on Saturday hosting Lesley in a NECC matchup at 11:00 a.m. as part of a tri-match that includes Lesley and Mount Ida meeting at 1:00 p.m. and DWC facing Mount Ida at 3:00 p.m.

Elms hosts Newbury on Saturday in a NECC meeting at Noon and faces MIT at 4:00 p.m. while Newbury takes on MIT at 2:00 p.m. in Picknelly Arena.
