Chicopee, Mass. - Ryan Howdeshell (Fairbanks, Alaska) and Saunoa Afoa (Las Vegas, Nev.) posted game-highs of 12 kills each as Daniel Webster swept Elms Saturday, 3-0 in a NECC contest at Picknelly Arena. The Eagles followed with a 3-0 sweep of Bard as Tommy Reyes (Providence, R.I.) posted a game-high 10 kills.
The victory over Elms pushed the Eagles (14-9, 7-1), winners of six straight - into a half-game lead for first place in the NECC standings over Endicott, which was idle on Saturday. The six straight wins is the longest for the program since 2013 and ties for second longest in program history.
DWC posted set scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-17 against the Blazers (10-12, 2-6 NECC) to sweep the regular season series.
Against Bard, Afoa and Darrien Mason (Farmington, Conn.) added six kills to the attack, as DWC earned set scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-20. Bard dropped to 5-19 overall.
Both Reyes (11) and Afoa (10) also reached double figures in digs.
The Eagles now gear up for their stiffest test of the season as they travel to second-ranked Springfield (21-2) next Saturday at Noon and follow facing Sage at 2:00 p.m.
