Nashua - Host Daniel Webster took a 2-1 lead on Endicott but the Gulls rallied to capture the fourth and fifth for a 3-2 victory in the NECC regular season finale for both clubs Saturday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.
Endicott (15-10, 9-1 NECC) captured the NECC regular season title with the 21-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 15-10 victory and will host the NECC final four next weekend beginning Friday evening.
Daniel Webster (15-12, 7-3 NECC) finishes in third place with three-seed for the four-team tourney and will face second seeded Regis (12-11, 8-2 NECC) in the second semifinal with a tentative start time of 8:00 p.m. preceded by Endicott and fourth-seeded Elms at 6:00 p.m.
Semifinal winners advance to the championship on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Beverly, Mass.
John Osborne (Freehold, N.J.) paced the Gulls with a match-high 20 kills and added 13 digs, while Jeremy Doski (Sandy hook, Conn.) posted 16 kills and 11 digs. Daniel Toth (Glenwood, N.J.) chipped in with 13 kills and four total blocks. Cameron Little (San Diego, Cal.) posted 61 assists.
Saunoa Afoa (Las Vegas, Nev.) paced DWC with 19 kills and added eight digs and four blocks. Ryan Howdeshell (Fairbanks, Alaska) added 14 kills, 12 digs and three aces while Darrien Mason (Farmington, Conn.) picked up 10 kills with five blocks. NJ Makaiwi (Las Vegas) registered 51 assists.
The teams were relatively even throughout with Endicott hitting .256 to DWC's .242 and the match saw 26 ties and 15 lead changes.
DWC looked to put Endicott away early in the fourth set jumping to a 5-5-1 lead but the Gulls answered with a key 10-2 run and never trailed after.
EC hit .261 as a team in the pivotal fifth led by three kills each from Osborne and Toth while Afoa countered with three for the Eagles, who hit just .083 and led only twice at 2-1 and 3-2.
DWC honored three seniors - Howdeshell, Mason and James Kenney (Coventry, R.I.) as part of senior night activities prior to the match.
