Women's Lacrosse: Eagles Fall At Home To Blue Jays
Nashua – Rachel Foster (Newington, Conn.) notched seven goals and Erika Leitao (Southington, Conn.) added three others guiding St. Joseph's of Connecticut past host Daniel Webster, 15-6 in a regional women's lacrosse matchup Thursday at Eagle Field.
Dayna Gambino (Newington) chipped in with two scores and set up two others for the Blue Jays (3-7), while Haley Tufano (Farmington, Conn.) scored twice.
Brianna Tenore (Rocky Hill, Conn.) earned the victory in goal, stopping four Eagle shots, while Lauren Carrick (Pelham, N.H.) made seven saves for DWC.
DWC jumped out to a 2-0 lead off scores from Cotoni and Ritz in the opening 2:58, before USJ would follow with four straight with three from Foster and one from Eliza Doane (Suffield, Conn.) over the next two and half minutes.
Kaylea Parkin cut the deficit to 4-3 with a free position score with 21:17 to go in the opening half followed by Blue Jay strikes from Foster and Leitao.
Pavelock would make it a 6-4 game but USK closed the half with scores from Leitao and Foster for an 8-4 halftime lead.
Cotoni would open the second with a power play score for an 8-5 game but USJ would score the next six to take command and didn't look back down the stretch.
USJ finished with a 22-9 shots on goal advantage.
The Eagles host Elms in a NECC matchup on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. USJ scrimmages Albertus Magnus at home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
